The Artful Pussycat

Now we’ve done it. We are now officially outnumbered by cats.

We’ve just adopted a new little boy from rescue at our dear friends vet clinic.

He’s about 5 months old and so painfully sweet that it literally makes your teeth and jaws hurt. He has beautiful tiger stripes on his legs and stripes on his side that are very much like woodgrain. He’s so tiny compared to Lump and even Lili but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in personality.

We’re still trying to get a good read on him before finalizing a name. Right now we’re leaning towards Cheeto or Bamboo.
Cheeto it is!

Our cats are pretty much 100% indoor cats. One of the cool perks of this house when we bought it was the screened in back porch. This is the closest the cats will ever come to being outside and it is their #1 happy place. Lump, freak that he is, likes to seek out the sunniest, hottest spot and just basks his thick black fur covered lump body in it.
Lili loves to nap on chairs and watch what’s going on outside the porch. She’s such a tiny little thing that I had to arrange spots around the patio with landscape timbers and planters so she could comfortably be high enough to see everything outside.
Yes, we’re dorks

Malice & Riley own the house right next door to me and they are kind tolerant enough to allow my dear friends, Chad & Michelle to live there as well. I love these two cats. Malice is the white one. Just like our cat Lili, Malice was gifted with heterochromia or more commonly referred to as “odd-eyed”. What I think is way cool about Malice, even though they both were born with heterochromia, Malices blue eye is his left but Lili is the opposite. Her blue eye is her right. Malice and Lili look strikingly similar except Malice is a long-hair and Lili is a short-hair.

Riley? Well he’s just Riley. He’s been around, seen a lot, has aches and pains due to his advanced age. He’s basically an intellectually a deep cat. He’s an “old soul” inside there. We get along fine. He’s generally cranky but he and I have an understanding. He outranks me in worldly wisdom and there’s a few places he DOES NOT like to be pet.
And oh my god, look at those eyes! He has the most beautiful eye color! Here’s a few quick shots of both with more shots after the jump!

This guy was a nice surprise visitor to find in my backyard right at the beginning of a thunderstorm.

He is a Red-Shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus). It was just starting rain moderately hard and this guy rode out about 15 minutes of the storm sitting in an orange tree in my backyard about 20 feet from my back porch. When I first saw him I’d just barged out the back door and startled him. He was on the ground most likely about to grab a meal which given thier diet, was likely one of the black racer snakes that just love my yard so much. We live just a few blocks from a HUGE lake so we often see some interesting birds, especially very cool birds of prey.

…well maybe not so much a real profile shot, I seem to remember that at this moment little Lili cat was terribly annoyed with the camera attention and just turned her head away as her little way to shun me.

As I type this though, she’s curled up by my feet under the desk.At least when cats get bored with the humans, it’s fleeting
